"The Cape Henlopen School District prepares each student for a healthy, creative and rewarding life in a diverse and global society by creating an educational environment which enables each student to achieve personal excellence and lifelong learning skills to become a productive and responsible citizen. The staff at Beacon Middle School supports this mission by providing students with educational opportunities which are varied by an extensive range of curriculum related experiences.

As the Cape Henlopen School District moves from "Good To Great", the staff is preparing its students for educational success. Students at Beacon Middle School are offered a traditional educational program that is supported and enriched by state of the art technology. Students are scheduled daily for English, math, social studies, and science. Each core area is taught by qualified teachers who develop curriculum based on the Delaware State Standards and Performance Indicators to ensure a quality and consistent educational program. Educational consistency is further supported by our District's Curriculum Map. The building is rich with technology as the curriculum is enhanced by the use of over 210 laptop wireless computers for daily student use. Gifted students are able to take part in the county-wide program of Academic Challenge while the building supports extra time programs for those students needing more assistance. The band and choir perform two major concerts a year. The athletic program enables 6th, 7th, and 8th grades to participate in sports that emphasize skill building and sportsmanship.

The goals of Beacon Middle School are: Strengthen communications and understanding between and among students, staff, parents, and community members. Support a middle school philosophy that fosters a schedule which includes professional and personal planning times. Improve students' self-discipline and work/study ethic. Provide a safe environment for students where they can grow physically, intellectually, and emotionally. Promote a healthy lifestyle and a positive self-image. Develop and implement a viable schoolwide curriculum for computer education. Expand the authority of the school (principal, teachers, pupils) in setting their own educational patterns and modes of instruction that are based on best practices. Coordinate efforts between feeder school staffs and Beacon Middle School staff. The administration at BMS has taken on the goal of helping teachers, students, and parents."
