"Stephen Decatur Middle School is located in Berlin, Maryland, just minutes from the beautiful beaches of Ocean City. It has approximately 670 students in grades 7 and 8. The seventh and eigthth grades have four teaching teams of 80 students each. The school is fortunate to be a Professional Development School through Salisbury University, training many highly qualified student interns as future teachers. The school has been recognized on numerous occasions for various achievements: success with state testing, Principal of the Year for the Maryland Student Government Association, State Technology Education Teacher of the Year, and winner of several grants to assist programs at the school. It is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. SDMS offers students a wide variety of activities that include band, jazz band, chorus, Destination Imagination, MESA, yearbook, SGA, after school academies for reading and math, and after school intramural sports.
The mission at Stephen Decatur Middle School, an increasingly diverse community, is to promote lifelong learning and fully develop the individual potential of all students. Recognizing the unique needs of adolescent learners, its staff strives to prepare its students to become productive and responsible citizens in an ever-changing world."
