- The beach is open daily from 5:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
- Dewey Beach Patrol is generally on duty from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with extended off-season coverage depending on staffing and conditions.
- Dogs may be on the beach at any time except from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through the Sunday following Labor Day. During that summer period, dogs are allowed before 9:30 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m.
- All dogs in Dewey Beach must have a town dog license.
- Alcohol consumption is not permitted on the beach during the summer season from May 15 through September 15. During the off-season, September 16 through May 14, alcoholic beverages are allowed on the beach.
- Surf fishing is permitted, but anglers must remain at least 100 feet away from bathers and must have any required DNREC fishing license.
- Launching boats from the beach and swimming to or from boats is prohibited.
- Kayak launches from the bay or ocean beach during guarded hours should be cleared with a lifeguard for a safe entry point. State law requires a life jacket and whistle on kayaks in the water.
- Beach bonfires are allowed by town permit only.
- Four-post canopies, umbrellas, and open-sided tents are permitted. Camping tents, privacy tents, potty tents, and similar enclosed structures are prohibited.
- Baby tents measuring 36 inches square may be used.
- Canopies may not be set up and left unattended before 9:00 a.m. Place canopies behind lifeguard stands so lifeguards have a clear view of the beach and neighboring stands.
- Trash cans are provided at each beach entrance. Littering is subject to fines.
- Public restrooms are located behind Hyatt Place on Van Dyke Avenue on the bay side.
- Beach wheelchairs are available during the summer season, and beach access mats are installed at nearly all dune entrances except Chicago Street.
