Beach & Boardwalk Rules
- No one is permitted on the beach from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- The beach, dune crossings, bandstand plaza, boardwalk, access ways, parks, and playgrounds are smoke-free except for signed designated smoking areas.
- Smoking marijuana is prohibited in public places by state law.
- Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach and boardwalk only from September 16 through May 14 when lifeguards are not present. Dogs and emotional support animals are not allowed on the beach or boardwalk from May 15 through September 15.
- Owners must leash dogs and clean up after them.
- No motorized vehicles are permitted on the boardwalk or beach, including electric bikes and motorized scooters, except for personal mobility devices used by people with disabilities.
- Bicycles are permitted on the boardwalk only from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. from May 15 through September 15. There is no boardwalk time restriction during the rest of the year.
- Adults may not ride bicycles on sidewalks. Children riding on sidewalks must be 12 or younger.
- Skateboards are prohibited on the boardwalk and bandstand plaza year-round, and on streets and sidewalks from May 15 through September 15.
- Rollerblades and other roller skates are prohibited on the boardwalk and bandstand plaza from May 15 through September 15.
- Tents, tarps, cabanas, pavilions, sportsbrellas, canopies, and similar devices are not permitted on Rehoboth Beach.
- Baby tents no larger than 3 feet high by 3 feet long by 4 feet wide are allowed.
- Umbrellas are permitted if the circular shade is no greater than 8 feet in diameter and the central pole is no longer than 7 feet, 6 inches.
- Anchor umbrellas and baby tents to prevent uncontrolled movement.
- Alcoholic beverages and open containers are not permitted on the beach, boardwalk, or public streets.
- Fires, grills, and cooking or heating devices that use fire are prohibited.
- Kites are not permitted on the beach while lifeguards are on duty.
- Umbrellas and personal items left on the beach between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. may be removed and discarded.
- Sleeping is not permitted in cars on city streets, on or under the boardwalk, or on benches.
- Exclusive parties and events are not permitted on the beach without city approval.
